Citi supports "100,000 Strong Initiative" for study abroad in China.

Citi CEO Vikram Pandit announced a $1 million commitment to President Obama's "100,000 Strong Initiative," which has the goal of dramatically increasing the number and diversity of American students studying in China. This important effort presents a tremendous opportunity to strengthen ties between our countries, as well as better position American students to excel academically and professionally in the global economy.

As the U.S. Department of State has noted, ten times more Chinese students come to the U.S. for study than vice versa, and 600 times more Chinese study English than Americans study Mandarin. This is an imbalance that the "100,000 Strong Initiative" aims to correct by helping U.S. educational institutions establish or expand China study programs. There will be special efforts to reach students traditionally underrepresented in study abroad programs, such as those at community colleges.

There is a strong role for exchange programs such as the "100,000 Strong Initiative" and we look forward to its success. More information about the initiative can be found at: www.state.gov/100000strong.
