Citi CEO Vikram Pandit spoke last week at the Bretton Woods Committee in Washington on ways to enhance the safety to the financial system. Some of the ideas he discussed are things being implemented in other countries that, he argues, the U.S. should consider. One of his ideas--the creation of a "benchmark portfolio" to allow apples-to-apples comparisons between the risk exposure of different financial institutions--is wholly new.
