Citi's Institutional Clients Group hosts Family Fun Day for Global Community Day

November 02, 2011
Ed Skyler, Executive Vice President | Enterprise Services and Public Affairs

On October 22nd, Citi's Institutional Clients Group (ICG) hosted a day of family activities as part of our bank's sixth annual Global Community Day. Among other events in the New York City area, Citi partnered with the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund and gathered on Manhattan's Pier 46 to learn life-safety skills from the Fire Department of New York. There were over 500 people in attendance partaking in the family fun day.

The mission of the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund is to provide financial assistance to families of Police Officers, Firefighters, EMS personnel and Port Authority Police who have been killed in the line of duty. Through an outstanding fundraising effort, solely consisting of donations to date from Citi employees in increments as low as $10, we are able to present this incredible organization with a check for more than $430,000.

Prior to joining Citi, I served as a Deputy Mayor of New York City, and in this capacity, was privileged to work with many police officers and firefighters. I witnessed firsthand the devastation and loss suffered by too many families when their loved ones are taken from them in the line of duty. The New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund steps in and assists with the financial burdens felt by these families--critical support during a difficult time. The Fund actively supports more than 630 families in and around New York City, and has given more than $123 million to the surviving loved ones of service workers. I now serve on the board of the fund and am proud of the outstanding contribution my Citi colleagues made to this worthy organization.
