Today, Citi CEO Mike Corbat spoke at the Annual Meeting of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce in Nebraska about the role that large banks such as Citi play in growing the U.S. and global economies and creating jobs. Mike thought it was important, 1,250 miles away from New York City, to talk about how Wall Street and Main Street are not as far apart as some try to make it seem.
He discussed how Citi has changed since the financial crisis; how global banks such as Citi are "scaled to serve" their clients; and how, in an era of globalization, America needs banks like Citi to help our multinational companies "grow, expand and remain competitive in a rapidly changing world."
Our CEO also announced that Citi lent $9.2 billion to American small businesses in 2014, more than double the amount five years ago. This shows how Citi followed through on its 2011 commitment to significantly expand its small business lending, which is a powerful tool for job creation.
