Launch of City Profiles for Key U.S. Cities

September 22, 2015
Bill Mills, CEO North America

We at Citi are proud of our 200-year record of supporting progress around the world, including in the United States, the country of our founding and our headquarters.

We're not the biggest bank in the U.S. In fact, we've tailored the focus of our retail business to some of America's most dynamic and economically important cities and metro areas. Since our founding in 1812, cities have not just been part of our name – they're in our DNA, and they are an increasingly important part of our strategy.

We're proud of our record of enabling growth and progress in America's cities. And to showcase what we do, and have done, in some of the country's most important urban centers, we've created a new set of brochures called City Profiles that highlight our long history, deep commitment, and record of impact in these cities.

Whether you're interested in Citi or cities — or, hopefully, both! — we hope you'll find these brochures engaging and informative. So far, we've created City Profiles for Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco — with versions for Boston, Chicago, New York, and Washington, DC coming in the months ahead.

Citi has played a critical role in supporting the growth and development of these cities, by providing a wide range of business services and through our commitment to the local communities.

In Los Angeles, we've helped enable a series of infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Port of Los Angeles – the busiest container port in the world – to the renovation and expansion of Los Angeles International Airport. And Citi Community Development supported the city and the Youth Policy Institute to become one of five Promise Zones, a new federal initiative designed to create jobs, increase economic activity and improve educational activity.

In Miami, Citi partnered with local communities to ensure they could obtain insurance protection from catastrophic storm losses in the wake of Hurricane Andrew. Last year, Miami is where we launched our multi-channel retail distribution model, and we also became the title sponsor of Miami's bike share program, rebranding it as "Citi Bike".

And in San Francisco, we serve as the financial partner for the innovative Kindergarten to College (K2C) program, which enables families to invest in their children's future by starting a college savings account for kindergartners. We've also supported a broad set of affordable housing projects throughout the Bay Area.

In each of these cities, we've launched Pathways to Progress, a landmark $50 million commitment by the Citi Foundation to give 100,000 low-income youth in the United States the opportunity to develop the workplace skills and leadership experience necessary to compete in a 21st century economy.

These are just a handful of the examples you'll find in the City Profiles, which are the product of an active collaboration between the California and Florida State Leadership Councils with colleagues from ICG, Consumer, Global Public Affairs and Citi Community Development.

There are many things we do as a firm to partner with these cities and their communities, and we can be proud of the impact we've had, and continue to have. I encourage you to take a look at the City Profiles to learn more about the role Citi plays in helping these cities to thrive, and to share them as you'd like with important stakeholders.
