Thanking Those Who Serve

November 11, 2015
Suni Harford, Regional Head of Markets, North America, Citi

Veterans Day is a reminder and an opportunity to thank our men and women in uniform for their service and to recognize their tremendous courage and sacrifice. I'm proud of the support Citi has shown our veterans over the years, and we're honored to continue supporting them through our programs, community involvement and volunteer activities year-round. Through our Citi Salutes initiative and other programs, all of us at Citi aim to forge lasting relationships with the men and women of our firm who have served their country.

Just yesterday, Veterans on Wall Street hosted its fifth Veteran Employment Symposium and Hiring Fair in New York. Citi played a leading role in co-founding the coalition and co-hosting the annual event, which has raised nearly $6 million in recent years to assist military members and their families as they transition back into civilian life. And last month, we worked exclusively with veteran-owned firms to syndicate a $1.5 billion bond issuance, demonstrating our commitment to providing opportunities to the veterans' community.

We have also co-sponsored the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) Housing Summit in Washington, D.C., where Citi Community Capital highlighted veteran projects in Boston and Chicago. To assist our veterans with their search for a career in the corporate sector, our employees have mentored veterans through American Corporate Partners. The Citi Foundation recently awarded a $250,000 grant to Team Rubicon, a veteran-focused disaster response organization that helps veterans transition from military to civilian life by leveraging skills they gained in the military to enhance disaster response efforts across the United States. And just last week at the Leave No One Behind gala in Boston, the New England Center for Homeless Veterans recognized our recent work in helping the center secure the funding necessary to expand their facilities and further develop their programming and the services they offer to veterans in need. Through all our partnerships our goal is to play a meaningful role in offering career guidance, mentoring and networking opportunities to veterans, highlighted at https://www.citisalutes.com

All of these efforts engage Citi employees across products, businesses and regions, and are a reflection of how much collective good can be done when we act on our passion and commitment. Citi cares about our veterans, and is proud to lead the financial services industry with our many demonstrations of that commitment.

Thanks to all our many employees who have served or are serving our nations, and all our many employees who work every day to support our veterans. Your sacrifices make us proud, and it is our honor to work alongside you.
