Citi Foundation-Supported PBS Series Continues, Focusing on Poverty Alleviation

December 14, 2012
Daria Sheehan, Citi Foundation Program Officer

The fourth installment of a special financial inclusion series underwritten by the Citi Foundation will debut this evening on the PBS weekly public affairs news program Need to Know. The five-part series, Your Money and Your Life, reinforces the Citi Foundation's commitment to educate, empower and transform low-income communities by supporting efforts to build financial capability among consumers. The year-long series began in May and has focused on topics ranging from peer-to-peer assistance programs to the challenges facing the working poor.

Tonight's segment examines the Family Rewards Program in Memphis, Tennessee, an initiative that aims to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty by offering conditional cash incentives to low-income families based on regular school attendance, good grades, steady employment and making preventative health-care decisions. The program's goal is to increase self-sufficiency, create positive health habits, and promote savings -- all of which play a critical role in building a family's future financial stability.

The Citi Foundation is focused on identifying and supporting innovative approaches to the most challenging issues around efforts to expand financial inclusion. Tonight's episode of "Your Money and Your Life" spotlights a pioneering concept that is having a positive impact in one community.

Need to Know airs Fridays at 8:30 PM ET. Check local listings for exact air times and stations. Click here to view all past episodes of Your Money and Your Life.
