Living In A Better World: 3 Ways Digitization Makes Our World a More Sustainable Place
By Jonathan Larsen, Head of Consumer Banking, Asia Pacific May 07, 2013 11:36 AMDigitization is a hot topic as more of the world moves toward online banking. For Citi, digitization is important because of the ways we use technological advances to make the world not only more convenient, but more sustainable. One progressive part of Citi's digitization efforts is the recent unveiling of Citibank Express, a machine that links physical and digital banking channels, allowing customers to do almost all of their banking outside of a branch. These are the three ways this development helps make the world a better place:
1) Less Paper. By enabling the consumer to do all of their banking digitally, Citi can use less paper and therefore fewer trees. In fact, at the end of 2012, more than 34 percent of Global Cards customers received e-statements. Customers using Citibank Express can also receive their transaction receipts via e-mail.
2) Energy Efficiency. Citibank Express, a "Smart Banking" machine, allows customers to do almost all of their banking without visiting a branch, including opening accounts and applying for loans, cards and cashier's checks. Performing all of these tasks digitally means that you can be more sustainable by eliminating the footprint of an entire branch.
3) No Need for Real Estate. By using a branchless bank, Citi can decrease the amount of materials it needs to maintain the branch.
Express marks the first major redesign of the ATM since Citibank introduced
unattended branches in the 1970s. Citibank Express is
our most recent example of innovative spirit and a big step towards our
goal to be the world's digital bank. We believe it can significantly impact the
way people bank across the globe.
At present, the service is available in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines and Citi plans to add branches across Asia and globally later this year:Learn more about 'Citibank Express' here.
