Citi's Continued Support of The U.S. Equality Act

Yesterday, the United States House of Representatives passed The Equality Act, which would amend existing civil rights laws to provide non-discrimination protections to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual people across key areas, including employment, housing, credit, education, and jury duty. By amending these federal laws to include sexual orientation and gender identity, the historic legislation would ensure that LGBTQ+ Americans are afforded the same rights as other protected groups.

In 2019, Citi was proud to join the Business Coalition for the Equality Act, a group of leading U.S. employers that supported the proposed legislation when it was first introduced as a definitive vehicle amending existing laws such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Fair Housing Act, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Jury Selection and Services Act, and several laws regarding employment with the federal government.

Today, we reaffirm our support for the Act and stand firmly committed to LGBTQ+ equality and protections everywhere. Our company policies have long aligned with the workplace protections outlined in the Act, but it's past time for those protections to be extended to all LGBTQ+ people, regardless of where they work or live.
