    Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to witness digital transformation first-hand and have long been impressed by the awesome power customers wield. When I joined Citi FinTech about 18 months ago, I was excited to be part of a customer-centric, Silicon Valley-style team serving as a spearhead for Citi’s Global Consumer Bank. Our new features and capabilities are driven by honest, everyday engagement with and feedback from our customers. Recently, I spoke at Efma’s Banking Innovation Forum in Toronto and shared with the conference participants a few of the lessons we’ve learned.

    ​As the head of Citi FinTech, I’m often asked about the role of women in leadership and innovation. My answer is often the same, which is that when I arrive at our office every day, I’m surrounded and inspired by a diverse team of change-makers. Our team members come from 5 continents and backgrounds that span the range of banking and technology companies. Half of my leadership team are women and half of Citi FinTech’s workforce are millennials. I’m proud of our diversity, not just because the statistics demonstrate the authenticity of our commitment, but also because of the impact these individuals have had collectively on the way we work and the results we deliver. The blend of experiences and inclusive culture have been critical to our success and make me proud to work at Citi.

    At Citi, we have a vast array of products and services that help enable growth and economic progress around the world. But when it comes to earning our clients’ and customers’ trust, direct interactions make all the difference. At a time when communications rarely occur face-to-face, technology like voice biometrics authentication is helping us create a better, faster, more personal experience for our clients and customers.

    We are all too familiar with the identity verification process that we encounter whenever we call any financial institution’s service center. Having to remember different PIN numbers and answer multiple questions can be a lengthy, even frustrating experience. Enter voice biometrics, the technology that enables instant recognition of a person based on their voice print, which is as distinct as a fingerprint. Each voice print is uniquely tagged and cannot be reverse-engineered once stored.

    This technology has been around for a number of years, but bringing it to consumers on a large scale is a massive undertaking. We saw voice biometrics as a great opportunity to improve the client experience in Asia and reinforce Citi’s reputation as an innovative company that brings simpler, safer solutions to our customers.
