  • Sheree Stomberg: My Pivot Point Taught Me to Reframe my Limiting Beliefs

By Sheree Stomberg, Global Head of Citi Shared Services and the CSC Delivery Network March 14, 2014 04:38 PM

To celebrate International Women's Day, Sheree Stomberg, Global Head of Citi Shared Services and the Citi Service Center Delivery Network, shares a pivot point that taught her to "Reframe her Limiting Beliefs."

Back in 2005, I found myself staring into my bathroom mirror while repeating the words "I am grateful for this career setback because...." Trouble was, I couldn't figure out how to finish that sentence. There was not one good thing that could possibly come from being passed up for a significant promotion and being layered. For half an hour, I stood there saying those same words over and over while I racked my brain, trying to generate an opportunity out of this. Finally, the words came to me: "I am SO grateful for this career setback because it's going to take me to new heights. I'm going to break through these barriers and contribute at multiples beyond what this opportunity would have allowed. I will make this the great motivator and propeller in my life."

  • Lessons from Miami, the Future of American Cities

By Angie Henderson Moncada, SVP Global Branding, Citi January 23, 2014 04:19 PM

Miami was my first city. I moved there for graduate school, stayed on to build a career, and came back to launch a venture that eventually led me to my current role at Citi. So, I had a real sense of pride yesterday at the U.S. Conference of Mayors 82nd Winter Meeting when Miami got a bit of the spotlight. Citi's North America CEO Bill Mills talked about how, in an increasingly urbanized, globalized and connected society, Miami is an example of how American cities can connect themselves to the wider world.

Miami is now home to more than 1,200 multinationals from 53 countries. Foreign multinationals and U.S.-based global organizations like Citi are progressively headquartering their Latin America operations in Miami. In fact, 800 use the city for their regional or global headquarters, with great effects on Miami's economy, tax base, and employment rolls.

  • A Portfolio for Global Literacy

By Room to Read November 30, 2013 08:43 PM

In 2011, when Sirisha was in third grade, Room to Read established a library at her school in Andhra Pradesh, India. She had been struggling with her reading skills, barely able to read a few words, but when the library's doors opened, Sirisha was captivated by the visual appeal of the environment and her love of books was instantly born.

Two years later, Sirisha makes sure she leaves home early each morning so that she has extra time to read a few stories in the library before class begins. With support from the school's head teacher, Sirisha is now an avid and skilled reader. Sirisha's parents, who are illiterate, are proud of their daughter's academic progress and enjoy listening to her read the stories she's borrowed from the library. "The library is my best friend--I love spending time with all those books," Sirisha says. One of Room to Read's published children's titles, A Day in the Market, has special significance for Sirisha as it reminds her of the shopping trips she takes with her mother to buy vegetables. "The day I could read it without faltering, I took the book home and read it aloud to her," she says proudly.

  • Streetline - Reimagining Parking

    October 21, 2013 12:34 PM

    <

Los Angeles County is home to more than 7.4 million registered cars, but only a fraction of that number of parking spaces. Streetline, Inc. has developed a solution: technology that helps people find parking spaces with a free app. But cities need funding to make to help them adopt the program. Recongizing the innovated quality of Streetline's idea, Citi was proud to provide a cash infusion that reduces up-front costs. As a result, Streetline is expanding to cities around the globe.

  • Citi Statement on FDIC Transaction

By Ed Skyler, Executive Vice President, Global Public Affairs September 13, 2013 02:00 PM

Today we closed a transaction involving the FDIC's remaining trust preferred securities. Now no U.S. government entity holds any securities in Citi issued as a result of the financial crisis. We will always be deeply grateful for the support provided by the U.S. Treasury, FDIC and American taxpayer during the financial crisis. We are pleased that the US Government realized a total return of more than $15 billion on its investment.

Citi is a very different company than it was before the crisis. We are a simpler, smaller, safer and stronger institution. We have sold more than 60 businesses not core to our strategy, become one of the world's best capitalized banks and been profitable every quarter starting in 2010. We are focused on serving our clients and enabling economic progress and growth, which has been our mission for over 200 years.
