By Brandee McHale, President, Citi Foundation and Francesco Vanni d’Archirafi, CEO of Citi Holdings and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Junior Achievement Worldwide May 12, 2015 07:45 AM

Citi and the Citi Foundation have been working with JA (Junior Achievement) since 1986, partnering on every level: from helping JA build capacity, to funding large scale programs, regional and global initiatives, and projects at the community level; to dedicated collaborations with Citi volunteers.

Every year, JA reaches more than 10 million youth across 123 countries, and 50 states within the United States, working to improve their financial and entrepreneurship skills as well as providing them with the resources needed to gain employment, start their own businesses, and begin to accumulate financial assets through savings. In today’s economy, these skills provide young people with invaluable tools for building their future and achieving their ambitions.

  • An Investment In Sustainable Growth

    By James A. Forese, Co-President, Citi March 02, 2015 01:15 PM

The following letter was written in response to The Wall Street Journal editorial “Citi Turns Green” that ran on February 24.

Regarding your editorial “Citi Turns Green” (Feb. 24): Citigroup Inc. is responding to the very real market demand for renewable energy and the associated financing need. Many of the world’s largest companies—and an ever-increasing number of homeowners—are already saving millions by investing in clean energy. We expect this trend to continue. The International Energy Agency estimates that to combat the effects of climate change, $500 billion in investments in low-carbon energy technologies is needed each year until 2020, with that number doubling by 2030.

  • Volunteerism - Beyond the Numbers

By Brandee McHale, President of the Citi Foundation and Director of Corporate Citizenship at Citi February 19, 2015 07:40 PM

I am often asked what impact our volunteer efforts have on the hundreds of communities around the world where our employees give back year-round. We can start with the numbers: 70,000+ Citi employees, families and friends turned out for our annual Global Community Day in 2014, for example, contributing 350,000+ hours of service, across 93 countries and 479 cities. We know that 63,000+ meals were served, 31,000+ youth were engaged, and nearly 1,400 houses were built for families.

But the real heart of our impact moves beyond the numbers, and is centered around the individual stories that result from these service experiences – both from those who act in service and those on the receiving end.

  • A New Report Highlights the Scale of the Global Affordable Housing Challenge

By Andrew Ditton, Managing Director, Citi Community Capital December 16, 2014 01:58 PM

Recently, Citi hosted a meeting with members of the Partnership for New York City for a presentation by the McKinsey Global Institute to address the massive and growing global affordable housing shortfall. Invited participants included key academics, New York City government officials, major commercial and residential developers, and local affordable housing advocates. To kick start the discussion, senior McKinsey partners presented a recent study the Institute conducted on the affordability challenge. Of the many telling findings, perhaps the most important was also the most basic: affordable housing is infrastructure, a key component, not unlike power grids or transportation networks, of regional economic development strategies. Indeed, I would go a step further and say that the intelligent integration of infrastructure - including core assets like affordable housing, energy grids, retail services, education and healthcare facilities, and safe public spaces - fundamentally impacts the livability and desirability of modern communities.

  • Six Continents + 93 Countries + 479 Cities = 1 'Epic' Global Community Day

By Florencia Spangaro, Director, Stakeholder Engagement and Strategy, Citi Foundation June 19, 2014 04:55 PM

More than 70,000 Citi colleagues, friends and family and alums came together in the days leading and including the 7th of June, as one global volunteer team. We reached 479 cities across 93 countries, and Citi volunteers got involved with a variety of activities, from hands-on to skills-based work.

We built homes, restored parks and helped increase financial literacy among today's youth. Although we gave back in a variety of ways, we came together for one common purpose: to demonstrate our strong and continued commitment to enabling progress in the communities in which we live, work and have a presence.
